Problemas colectivos

Aliens

 Aliens

Apparently this planet if full of them, is just that we cannot see them because they don't have a physical body, well don't use to have one all the time unless they want to. Why is a body required, being spirit could be more fun?

I like the body & material idea, is easier to live with, at least for me used to it.

Why I am thinking in them. Well they thought in me that is why I reply back.

They must be curious guys but totally under our radar due their low frequency.

Can someone be low and curious at the same time? or their curiosity is like gossip no fundamental.

This all started with a conference of a Chilean writer named Isabel Allende, about Story telling.

I started to wonder if I could create a story like she does: magical, fun, human hearted.

I may continue it, just let me think a bit more the next bit.

King Charles

Today is coronation day in UK.

I am not pro nor against monarchies.

I was not born in this country.

I particularly think Carlos is a very unlucky person, ever to get a crown of rain on his head today.

To me kings are very well paid slaves to the country by us.

I think they have no way to escape of their non-sense inheritance, but if they could they will run away.

They have too much money.

But I don't think rich people and money are bad; the bad thing is people not having it. We all work for money everyday and won't work by free, we have a capitalist life and we need to be aware and congruent with it.

I did time ago systems for a finance group; talking with them, I got to know that the money that the king family generates to this country is really good; is nothing compared with what we pay.

Leaving the royals go away could be even worse than leave the EU has been to get our pockets emptier.

I read recently the biography book of Michelle "Becoming Obama" and she talked about the day they were invited by first time to the Buckingham Palace by the Queen and the Duque;

she said how imponent and ostentatious is the place in comparison with the White house in USA that she before felt was a big showy display to impress.

But she also said the queen was just an old grannie who talked aside with her about having to stay stand long hours on hard uncomfortable shoes and that they became very good friends.

England is still on the top play because of that royal posh fake image - real English life and people is much simpler and kind. I would say English people are land walkers and nature lovers. Sorry, thank you and roast dinners do define us better.

Sorry, I do always hesitate to call myself English but sometimes I do. I feel I am some how but I know I am not some how too; but at the end I have lived in England the most of my life and citizenship is registration based in localization and billing identity rather than culture amalgamation or ancestry or descendances. I hope one day frontiers get removed to help me to register myself better as a citizen of this planet.

So to me, Charles is our best paid slave..

I think he should be free to go from his golden cage.

I don't think the royalty will last very long, many countries have already got rid of them; but none of them had as strong world influence as the previous Elisabeth queen had, she made it continue until today.

One good thing about having a king aside of the prime minister is that if someday anyone wants to do a coup (which happened and destroyed my previous localization country), they will need to kill 2 people and not just one

.. nice

Dust

 Dusty

.. is this feeling of being in between.

Helping who didn't ask for help,

thinking on who didn't want to be think of,

talking to who doesn't want to hear but just to be heard by the walls,

the privacy of the walls is missed ..

Why do I care?

why not to limitate my thoughts to my place and my people.

Can my care & my thoughts be any help?; or is just noise interference on others life.

If something is hard to adapt is our natural self to get away of their heart:

hearty for so many people can turn your own heart to wonder and suffer as if others hearts were mine.

Strange pursue of mine and impossible path to continue in any acceptable way.

Rude, rude indeed to my soul not to place the limit wall were to enclose my thoughts and hold them from wonder if I could help

Helping is a deep need, like give and solve.

Perhaps too many superhero movies have affected my brain; or just a puzzle game I started long ago and still cannot untangle how to get an intimate friend their unicorm back.

Colombian music

I thought to start with some must know singers:

Shakira

Is probably the most famous singer in Colombia.
She is more or less my same age; below is the first song I liked of her.
Her voice range is unique. She writes her own lyrics based on her own life experiences and is a complete artist not just a singer, dancer, choreographer, composer, philanthropist and a very open and friendly person.

Pies descalzos  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCna-hsmGUY

Carlos Vivez
He is known for mixing Colombian traditional music styles and themes on his music

Cumbiana https://youtu.be/baUk9YcCxBQ

is a song to Barranquilla life in bike.

Juanes

romantic pop

Es por ti  https://youtu.be/-9l5t3MWss8

Aterciopelados

She is an artist that wants to tell something to you in each song and has a unique approach on love&peace&family.  Again she is an artist and a communicator, not just a singer. She always sings with her husband and sometimes her daughter too.

Bolero Falaz https://youtu.be/sUlsTs2ljaE

Soy yo  https://youtu.be/efb1V14RWpE , she made this song for her little daughter

Maluma

He singer is a macho guy, his songs are very sensual and have lots of reggaetón

Sobrio https://youtu.be/RljdPIfnp0U

Alejo Duran

He was a classic vallenato singer; accordion and guacharaca

Binomio de Oro

Olvidala https://youtu.be/yry3rgGlRUw

Hety & Zambo

No weakness https://youtu.be/pGNJNqaiDN0

-----------

Now we should go into types of music:

Cumbia

this rhythm has indigenous drums, African sensuality and Spanish featured dresses.

I was told it was first dance by someone that had a bad leg and as you can see always one leg is ahead leading and the other just lagging behind.

El pescador https://youtu.be/57Z7uoXzJ8w

Bullerengue

Is a cumbia story, so it is danced with dramatization gestures, only difference is the way to dance

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2leZTIrua9Q

Porro

is an evolution to a ballroom cumbia, played with brass instruments and orchestra.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWQozBVPcKA

African drums

yes today sometimes they have cumbia mixed; but African drums are a style on their own, see

Toto La momposina https://youtu.be/xObESuNVEgw

Mapale

Made by fisherman when coming back from work. The fish out of the water are the men, the sea are the woman.

Is a quite energetic and difficult dance.

https://youtu.be/mJg-IpblfXc

Carranga

Peasants dance.

it is the music from Boyaca, is another waltz like dance but you dance in it in little jumps

The instruments are  guitars, tipple(12 strings guitar), requinto (smaller 6 string guitar), guacharaca (scraping a cane trunk) and voice,

https://youtu.be/V_OOcVcuMVw

La cucharita se me perdio https://youtu.be/aId1h7DMABg

Pasillo

Is an Austrian waltz for dancing, it came from europe after the independency but using typical instruments of the area, it sounds different: guitar, tiple, piano, cuchara, arpa, flute, requinto, bajo & accordion sometimes too.

Pasillo fiestero https://youtu.be/WqV_oT59_2Q

Bambuco

Is similar to a waltz made with just guitar & voice.

Sometimes is hard to differentiate from a Pasillo; but the Bambuco is a Colombian made rhythm.

Campesina santandereana https://youtu.be/zEMdEJwFUD8

Bunde

You may not believe but the Bunde initiated as a slaves funeral music for kids that died before having 7 years old. It is for them to go to heaven as they are still innocents souls they should just go at once.

It starts sad and slow and it turns out happy as the kid go to heaven.

Poniendote a gozar https://youtu.be/2Gyl_F5OJl0

Soca

Colombia has 2 caribean islands San Andres y Providencia were habitants got a mixed up language; they speak "patua" you may half understand the lyrics

https://youtu.be/c04jMqPaElQ

Salsa

Salsa is not from Colombia is from Cuba, but it has a big place, specially in Cali Medellin.

Bomba camara https://youtu.be/MtVTsesQLw4

Merengue

Merengue is neither from Colombia is from Puerto Rico, but again is has a big place everywhere because is very easy to dance; we say is like walking with rhythm, the next thing you learn after toddler walk.

Torta y arepa https://youtu.be/s1Pbl1-onEY

Joropo

Is music with harp from Los Llanos

And  it is the first one that turned on my interest in Colombian folk.

Growing outside Colombia, when child I found Colombian folk music quite old fashion and none sense, until the day I saw my grandfather take my mum to dance a Joropo in a wedding with an audience of many people that thought like me.

He helped the bride's mum to start the party by doing it, and the party turned on with them.

I never saw my mum that way before, she cover the room side to side dancing with him. Opposite to what people believe most of these dances movements are only from waist down and mostly feet, and the top body is just to frame hold your partner but doesn't really move.

So being 5 years old I asked my grandfather to dance with me like with her and teach me a bit

Bogota tourist guide

 Bogota tourist guide

Colombia has never been a touristic place.
Just recently it has opened up.
I did school in Colombia 3 years only, and being born in Colombia and lived in Venezuela, still I was the only foreign I ever saw.

Richard, my husband, years ago when he was applying for a visa to go to Colombia by first time - we got married in Colombia- he was told "you don't need a visa to go to Colombia, you go at your own risk", which we still do remember because Richard loves going to Colombia since then.

Important to note, when you fly to Bogota and the plane is landing, people clap and sometimes sing the national anthem. It is not because they are amazed the pilot make it land after a long trip, it is because Colombians love Colombia and are happy to be back.

Go to Colombia with your Visa Card, and take cash pesos out in the airport cash machine.. nice comment to start; well is what everybody asks me; how to carry my money?

In Colombia most places still use cash. Also in the airport and in some shopping centers you find where to exchange dollars and euros to Colombian pesos, the exchange place is named "Casa de cambio".

Cash: In Bogota debit cards are not accepted in many places, few people has them, nobody signs them, so definitely you need to pick some cash in the airport before getting out. Also cash machines expect you to type the password very fast (for example, my mum is old and slow typing, she cannot use it). Also when in front of a cash machine, people covers the numbers with their hand and check for mirrors and people around, it is a panicky spot to be short & fast and not alone.

Politeness: Bogota people greeting & bye-bye can be very very long, always shake hands and includes kiss and hug only between known people; they are extremely polite and warm welcomers.

Look: Being well-groomed is important to Colombians, both women, and men. Although it’s not the rule, Colombians pay a lot of attention to appearance, good smell, groomed nails, and clean shoes. Remember to use deodorant; from past and history, Europeans in Colombian have the fame of never using a deodorant and getting smelly with the day course.

Punctuality: is not tight in Colombia unless it is a business meeting. For social and casual engagements, delays or lateness of up to an hour from the time stated can be normal, smile.

Visiting someone's house: people use to bring some small gift like fruit, breads or flowers.

People from Bogota wakes up early, early you find several things are already open.

Colombia population is young, the average age is 30 years old.

Taxis: Take taxis; in Colombia taxis are yellow cars and are very cheap, people takes more taxis than buses; and there is lots of traffic because of that. They use a "taximeter" machine at front which they start when the trip starts, to calculate the price.

At night if you phone a taxi they give you a "contrasena" or password to tell and the "answer" to get to verify is the person you expect.

Driving: driving is very bad and aggressive picking the gap spaces to be first. Careful when crossing the streets.

Unemployment: 40% of the population is unemployed and making up things to get money or to get busy the day. The taxi drivers can be even lawyers and doctors; many professions don't have enough jobs and there are too many professionals; so there are many taxi drivers. If someone gets a job, they don't leave it until they retire and they work well & hard.
I think it is key to understand why some people has so much time to chat and welcome and others disappear to work.

Drugs: Colombians never eat drugs, neither like to be talked of drugs, is a national pain to have this fame; drugs are not socially liked, also Colombians are extremely catholic to accept them, but a foreigner may be offered in sale all of the sudden apparently.

Beggars, there are many in streets and in busses they do sell sweets. In some areas they are so many that is better not to go there; unfortunately there is still people sleeping in cardboard boxes on the coldness of Bogota nights. I used to carry a couple of chocolate bars in my pocket for them. If you see a kid begging in the street, give them a chocolate bar, it will help them to get calories to hold on the day; no give money, their parents may take it and use it to buy glue or alcohol.
People without food, drug themselves by smelling yellow glue to forget their hungriness, there are not drugs but they may be drugged.

Coffee: Is planted by lots of small farmers and collected in the towns by the "National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia" from different people. Now there are also big coffee farms that do the production in a big scale way to produce a more standard product, in Pereira & Manizales.

"Juan Valdez" is a fictional character who has appeared in advertisements to represent the "National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia" since 1958, representing all Colombian coffee farmers.

Colombia is proud of keeping the 1st place on producing coffee of quality (Brazil has the 1st place on quantity) and Colombia is also the winner of barista world wide competitions.

In school all kids learn about coffee and cocoa, and many Colombians has picked, dried, separated good and bad coffee beans by themselves from the plant to make a coffee or to take it to the "National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia" for sale collection.

The single family that owns most the coffee business owns also most of Colombia: media, channels, political seats, etc. They have build most of Colombia really, and should be proud. However Colombia has tradition in believing poor people are the good guys and will go to heaven easier and rich people who  are bad and shouldn't exist .. I truly believe is the reason why prosperity gets always put away and it helps the poor keep poor for ever and feel well  about it.
Currently there is a left wind president, who all of the sudden has become rich with no much work, and have these rich people on down for being "corrupt"; so I should probably not mention it and start to talk bad about being too rich and raise the poor and having to distribute money better... to his good cause.. but really Colombia is a country with too many people and a low budget so there is no much to distribute; and poverty can justify thieving.

In resume, don't talk about politics or about the president or left & right in Colombia; it takes too much energy and stress and there are very separated opinions and nobody really knows what is happening on politics  further than their own home.

Colombian people is the work force any country would dream to have; they work like ants since very early you see people moving around and cleaning, cooking, etc  .. goverment doesn't do much maintenance work but its people.

Also, recently Colombia -under the previous government- had to get a massive amount of debt to be able to vaccinate against the CORONA virus their people and maintain the "right to health services to be public".. Colombia bought vaccines to China & USA at a high dollar price. Plus had their economy in close down as it has happened all over the world; they are in deep recession.

Colombia has "generic medicines" production; it is medicines made locally like aspirin, paracetamol, diabetes medicines, .. it has been a way to afford health on pesos and not on dollars.

I think also has been trying to produce their own computers as again paying in foreign currencies makes the exchange price expensive. In general, if you see something expensive in Colombia, check, may be is not made in Colombia yet. Things like a shampoo Pantene, a Gillete shaver foam, a Kellogs cereal,  chemotherapies, many pharmaceuticals, etc., are very expensive foreign things.

For example, my mum showed me that her neighbor had a fridge made in Colombia and had round compartments, like the eggs ones  to put fruits separate at not too cold temperature.. "made in Colombia" things has been a solution to many budget problems.

Repairs: Colombians repair everything, a car, a juice blender, a radio; things get used forever. If you put something in the bin someone picks it immediately, fix it, covers the holes, paints it and makes use of it. That is why there are "Chivas" buses and lots of "old radios" around and still working.
For example my cousin is now driving the car of my grandfather which was totally redone by her father; the break is a twined thick cord you pull; but metal parts like the pedals are still made of a metal. My grandfather told me he bought this, his first and only ever car in 1975; now it is in the third generation of hands. And the car still runs well and has rarely been taken to a formal garage for repairs; my cousin, she has also learned from her dad on how to repair it and keep it working.

Recycling: Sometimes I wonder if repairing is the most environmentally friendly thing ever though, .. not to bin things.
Colombia don't do recycling.
There are some beggars that collect for example coke & fanta tins from streets and bins and sell them to collection points; they do the recycling task.
I think Colombian rubbish collection is still much more organic than ours, even when they are bagging more now than they used to; people buy directly to farmer markets that set on specific street days, and for example carrots are bough with soil and leaves. Also the food is so local that transport to sell it is minimum.

Mountains: "Los Andes" is a big and long mountain that starts in Argentina and ends in Colombia. Colombia has 3 row branches of the "Andes" mountains crossing by the middle of the country, so road trips are very like going by the "Alpes" mountains, up & down in zig-zag narrow roads aside the mountain; also roads are hard to maintain so they pay toll "peaje" every trip. Peaje is paid to private companies that built the roads, not to the government.

Agriculture: Planting on mountain terrain is hard because no machinery can run, all work is done manually and they work hard; all the land possible to work is used. The best helpers are cows rotation to remove grass and to compost (do pu) the soil by parcels; not having seasons makes cow farming quite easy, and nobody makes houses for cows, they live outdoors and feed and drink by themselves.

The "llanos" flat area is recently found to be easier to plant, but the richness of dark compost matter of most of the "Andes" soil is very productive and also gives different climates for different products.

Bogota land: Bogota is an "altiplano", is a flat table top mountain, but is very big, you forget you are on a mountain until you drive drown.

Bogota is divided in South (poor) & North (rich) and has 2 main exits: the South exit goes to "salto the Tequendama" the biggest waterfall in the country and then goes down to warmer places where Colombians go on family weekends for leisure like "Melgar" or "Girardot".
The North exit goes to "Boyacá" which is a potato farming county area.

Directions: they tell you in the directions if it is North or South and then areas are matrix numbered in coordinates calle: X, carrera: Y. But recently the perfect coordinates numbering has been broken by few re-constructions. Calle 0 Carrera 0 is the middle of the middle of Bogota.

Bogota weather: It is cold in the night ~10 degrees but at mid day the sun warms up ~15-17 degrees and may rain but not more than 1 hour daily.

The Bogota river: is extremely polluted due chemicals used in Spanish clothes factories that have never been regulated (they said people can loose jobs if the government force those factories to stop the chemicals going to the river), and there is a beautiful waterfall "Salto de Tequendama" driving out of Bogota, but the experience is ruined by the smell of the exit of this river; still this waterfall seems to be the end of the smell, it clears the air and the waters.

The north exit of Bogota has many "invernaderos" (plastic houses) for Roses grow, produced for exporting; you see them when driving along. Also, has many nice spots to stop to eat.

City centre (old city) : Barrio "La Candelaria" to walk, has several museums; I do remember these:

-Gold museum: Colombia had lots of gold and emeralds that is why was the 2nd most important colony of Spain after Mexico. Spaniards use to exchange mirrors for Gold to indigenous people.

-Botero museum: Botero is the best know Colombian painter & sculptor, he does fat people and is easy to recognize his style https://www.galeries-bartoux.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/botero-portrait-galeries-bartoux-scaled.jpg

-Gabriel Garcia Marquez: is the best known writer, his most famous book "100 years of solitude" is hard to follow/read because it has a huge amount family stories interlaced and many names and times, but you may want to have a go and read it.

-Plaza de Bolivar: every city has one "Plaza de Bolivar" with the statue of Bolivar in the horse and pigeons. Bolivar is the national hero in the independency war with Spain.

-Casa museo quinta Bolivar: Bolivar is a national hero.  Bolivar lived few years in this house after he did independent Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador & Peru.. he made himself president , until the local liders through him away to make themselves "presidente". Bolivar was Venezuelan, but he wanted to make a "Great Colombia" joining the 5 countries he liberated from Spain.
If you want to know the history of Bolivar there is a nice drama on Netflix in Spanish & Portuguese, but he lived most years in Venezuela; only at the end of his life he moved to Colombia and there is a bit of a Soup Opera part on his history because there are famous women and lovers who followed, admired and protected him; even when he was not handsome at all, just good with words.
https://www.netflix.com/title/80220422

-Shakira & Carlos Vives are most famous singers, these guys https://youtu.be/-UV0QGLmYys
but there are lots of different singers that are quite interesting.

Out of Bogota, towards Boyaca county: if you have a car you can go from town too town stopping.

-Guatavita: small white colonial town and the round lake; "lake Guatavita" is a place where "el dorado" legend started. Is a extremely round lake, people believes was made by a meteorite because of that. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g11874221-d590503-Reviews-Laguna_de_Guatavita-Tierra_Negra_Cundinamarca_Department.html.

-Villa de Leiva: is another colonial small town where the Spanish kings used to go when on holidays. All the plaza floor was stoned by slaves - I liked to see the sky in that plaza at night seating on the floor, when there is noneone around, has a strange feeling the rocks and the solitude -. https://caracoltv.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/672d31c/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1000x716+0+0/resize/1000x716!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcaracol-brightspot.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com%2Fassets%2Fbluradio%2Fblu_radio_villa_de_leyva_municipio_.jpg

-Raquira: is a pottery & hammocks town https://nomadicniko.com/2018/03/29/raquira/

-Catedral de sal de Zipaquira, is extremelly busy religious pilgrimate place. It was a small mine of salt they built a subterranous church in it, now there is huge church built inside the mine. It has the "Virgen del Rosario" the patron of the minery workers

https://www.catedraldesal.gov.co/Paginas/default.aspx

Aguardiente: is the local alcoholic drink, it is anise flavour and is 25% alcohol, is served in small cups and to be drink in 1 go quick because it tastes horrible and is quite strong. 2 aguardientes and you are on, be careful.

https://elcorreodelanoche.com.co/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/nectar-rojo-375.png

Thieves & pocket pickers : don't carry jewelry, fine watches or fine hand bags in the street, it attracts thieves; neither huge backpacks because they are used only by foreigners.. you want to look local.

Women in Bogota carries/hide the money in their bra in a fabric bag or in their panties.

Machismo: is a common idea that Colombia has lots of machos and that they are a bad person. I think there is a lot of flirting, infidelity and separations going on there; Colombians have a very rich social life since very young  and it brings up a big variety of life situations you will see.
Also, statistically, Colombia use to have a bigger amount of women than male, but it seems has leveled. By true, most stablished families are solid rock relations, and family life is rich and fun.

A macho is the description of what defines a male; and it has 2 main branches one is dominant, bossy and in charge; the another is protective, gentleman and galante.
Not sure what is that bad or good of the whole stereotype, but if you find a macho, let him be; is hard enough to be male. I am sure he will let you be feme too. I mean, don't self discriminate your role and your capacity of choosing.

What to do in Bogota:

- rent a local friend in Bogota https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/AttractionProductReview-g294074-d17646961-Rent_a_local_friend_in_Bogota-Bogota.html

- go in a "Chiva" is a very old bus, that is very colorful & has removed doors & windows and has loudy music, and they show you the city with stops, and in the night also with aguardiente, it use to go up to a "la Calera, mirador" and come back down.

https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g294074-d3514732-Reviews-Chivas_Tours_De_Colombia-Bogota.html

- go to a bakery "panaderia"

- go to a market like "paloquemado" fruit market and flower market Paloquemado market

- go to the stadium to a futbol match, futball is quite all gender inclusive and family oriented, for example "Estadio Nemésio Camacho El Campín"

- walk or cycle in the "ciclovia": "From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday, the Colombian capital of Bogotá shuts down 75 miles of streets and highways, handing them over to cyclists, runners and walkers."

- music, not sure where  to go but the musical variety of Colombia you need to listen it: each region has different types of folk music. Bogota folk music is "pasillos", "guavinas" & "guitar string trios" mostly and there quite alot of mariachi places too.  "ballenato" (accordion is from the cost), "cumbias", "bambucos", "san juaneros". "joropos" & arpas are from "los llanos" the flat hot area at the south-east.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0p0pplV9UxpBvR5akVc9Lm?si=daa7c8ba3ff545d4.

Salsa is not from Colombia, but Medellin city is famous for salsa dancing.
Currently Reggaetón is everywhere.

- if you go to any "finca" (house with a bit of farm land), horse ride is nice and also now they use to have swimming pools. People from Bogota goes to family fincas on the weekends.

- parties: are good everywhere if you are invited, go; and people is good at dancing; men do always invite you, as always you chose who to dance with or say "no gracias" and is no problem.

- go to "la zona rosa", also named "zona T" to have a beer (cerveza), is the place they seem to go out at night now.

- go to "la zona G" gourmet area.

- go to a "salon de belleza", beauty salon and do hair, nails, pedicure, highlights, eye browns, .. is extremely cheap and well done most places, but because of that I find it can take me a whole day.

- Eat "bandeja paisa" typical lunch meal from Medellin.

- Eat "sobrebarriga" (flank steak) with "papas chorreadas" potatoes with sauce https://www.sweetysalado.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/DSC_00388N.jpg

- Go to "Monserrate" .. I liked to go walking up that mountain to do exercise ~4 hours walk, but now is not safe depending on the hour, so there is a funicular. Apart of the walk, on the top there is no much, is only 1 church and the view of the city and go down -but the priest was my mum's cousin.

Shopping:

- leather "cuero": jackets, bags, shoes: Cuero

- gold: to buy a ring or a chain, they do them bespoke in the jewelries on a specific area of the city centre -not to go alone to buy gold.

- art: as a foreigner, you can go to an art gallery and you can buy a proper oleo art picture from good local artists at a good price (£150+) and nicely framed on fine wood. You need to keep the receipt for the airport, they check noneone is stealing a Botero paint.
May be difficult to carry on hand not to damage, but I have done it before.

- clothes: in many places, when you buy clothes, you try the clothes and they make the folding of the length and adjustments to your size waits directly in the shop.

Colombia is an exported of clothes without label to top brands, there are now some good designers and has its own production of cotton fabrics, for example they made the jeans without sowing line, they can be quite creative. Local people has knowledge of fabrics & sowing, if you will stay several days on a same place, you can buy for example a trouser made to measure, from any tailor (pay on collection) https://www.utadeo.edu.co/sites/tadeo/files/node/wysiwyg/sastreria_vecinos_utadeo_20170607_004.jpg

- artesanias: hamocks, ceramic, door hanging bells, etc.

Breakfast: In Colombia the main meal is the breakfast, then lunch;  ask for a "desayuno tipico" (typical breakfast) and you will get a tray full of different things, it always include a "caldo" (runny soup) like "changua" (milk caldo) or "caldo de costilla" (beef bone soup), café (coffee) or chocolate, eggs, fruit & breads or arepa.

Food: Each region has a complete different typical dish, because people eats very local production and each area has a different weather/food production.

Bogota typical food is a soup made with 8 different types of potatoes & "guascas" herb, the dish is named "Ajiaco con pollo", they use to serve it with avocado, rice and corn (avocados & corns are tasty in Colombia); and Colombians like dipping; they dip: bread, bananas, avocado, cheese, poach egg, etc., in their soups.
Potatoes: https://www.papaunc.com/sites/default/files/foto_art1.jpg

Pasteleria: go to a bakery ask for "3 leches" cake or pick any cake and a coffee, they are very colourful/fruit-top decorated. https://www.eltiempo.com/files/image_1200_680/uploads/2020/12/28/5fea66fc148ce.jpeg

Panaderia tradicional: pan de yuca, pan de bono, pan de sagu, empanaditas, almohabanas, arepas .. there is a big variety of indigenous flours and bakeries do the traditional local bread aside of the Spanish-like-bread: https://mascolombia.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Amasijos.-4.-C.jpg

Fermented drinks: I do avoid the homemade fermented drinks like: "masato" (fermented carrots or pineaples), "chicha", "kumis" (homemade yogurt), but you may like them.

Coffee places: the coffee is good everywhere, everybody knows how to do a good coffee, they call it "negrito" (black coffe)  o "con leche" (coffee with milk), no fancy names, and the coffee they buy in the local supermarket is the best bag you can buy. A good coffee is made with proportional measuring.
People saids the coffee from the Volcanic mountain areas is the best flavoured; well, farming of that area is all nice flavoured; the biggest lettuce and tomatoes I have ever seen were from close to a volcano land in Pasto at the south west of Colombia.

The best known place to have a coffee is "cafeteria Juan Valdez" (again from the association of Coffee growers), all they sell is made of coffee, even moose and coffee cakes and coffee beans covered in chocolate.

Agua panela: is hot water with a melted block piece of cane sugar cooked, all Colombians drink it daily.

Chocolate: same than agua panela, hot chocolate is served with bread or arepa and white fresh cheese; is very easy to find for tea time "onces" they call the tea time.

Arequipe ("dulce de leche"): is the national sweet, is made with milk, sugar & cloves cook at pression cooker; the homemade one is nicer; but is very very sweet.

Arequipe in "obleas" is the church communion flat bread, when filled with a thin layer of arequipe https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTUZeiAlptNcitfL4fHlmcSyOWGzVZEdrnyUw&usqp=CAU .

"arequipe con queso" (sweet and salty together to neutralice the sweet) https://i.pinimg.com/736x/db/01/c7/db01c7eb33fe96eae11e2fbb84982154--queso-caramel.jpg

"Alpina" is the most known local brand for arequipe, yogurts and milky products. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61xs3L5SW3L.jpg

Bocadillo: is similar to the Spanish one, again very very sweet, is made of "Guayaba" and wrapped in leaves: https://www.elcolombiano.com/documents/10157/0/843x562/0c0/0d0/none/11101/FPHP/image_content_36062831_20200720133429.jpg

Cheese: there is not a big variety of cheeses: queso blanco y queso de mano (different texture). My mum used to buy it from the farmers freshly done and wrapped in plantain leaves: https://portalechero.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Queso-campesino-colombiano.jpg

As I already mentioned, people buy food in farm markets or in street farm markets, more than in supermarkets, food is very fresh and locally produced.

My mother thinks we eat old food because our food comes in a sealed bag.

Milk: cow farmers van deliver the milk in the mornings, they have a bell (like ice cream vans), people has a sized aluminum pan-bottles to buy it every morning on their street and then they boil it.

Water: they sale water in bags, also pasteurized milk in bags. Water in Bogota comes from a very clean lake, is cleaner than in England in composites, but is not treated for drinking. Buy "bolsita de agua" and check every juice you buy is made with pasteurised water https://live.staticflickr.com/3006/2972851241_98b2c8aa32_b.jpg

Juice: Colombia has a wide range of fruits not known here, they don't drink prepacked juices, but everybody buys fruit and has a blender & a colander.
Buy a juice, in a establishment or if you do it in the street, look to see them doing it clean and with bagged water https://res.cloudinary.com/civico/image/upload/c_fit,f_auto,fl_lossy,h_1200,q_auto:low,w_1200/v1433270744/entity/image/file/00f/000/556df9b3b9dd5de7e200000f.jpg.

My favourite fruits citrics: lulo, maracuya (passion flower), mora (blackberries).

Oranges are not that sweet (if you compare with Spain) and local apples and grapes also are not that good, they come from seasonal countries like Peru, so are not fresh.

In the non-citric range I like from Colombia these fruits: papaya, mango, guayava, guanavana, mini bananas, mamoncillos, etc.

Wine: I tell you because Richard always tries to find wine everywhere he goes .. Colombia has bad grapes (grapes need long summer days, and Colombia has no seasons), so no good wine, but they have now been doing fruit wines apparently https://www.exito.com/vino-durazno-melocoton-461724/p

Potatoes: each area has a different type of potato, I recommend you to eat "papa criolla" the yellow round little ones, they are unique from Colombia; the smaller ones are the nicer https://cdn.tasteatlas.com/images/ingredients/53f92a8ee41d4131b5501c8e52c986d0.jpg

You can also have a fruit salad for lunch, with 6-8 fruits, they are good at knowing what fruits do combine flavours well, and they use to put white cheese and ice cream on top https://pidee.co/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/WhatsApp-Image-2020-12-11-at-6.02.53-PM-848x566.jpeg

Because of the amount of juice and fruit you get in Bogota (everywhere someone offers you a juice) you get to do pipi a lot, and in few days your skin & hair get nicer.

Knitting

One of the most valuables things my parents teach me was knitting. I did a table cloth knitting in the metro to the University for 3 years. Knitting is an art to develop patience; to relax and enjoy the moment and keep working. I hear so many bad news in the media, I do sometimes wonder if really the world is that bad, then I go to see the stadistics, numbers help me to be objective, and I see good numbers: the number of tree planted this year has raised, the number of deads due accidents keep falling, awareness about our environment, about our rights, about our duties keep raising I go to the street and I see my wheelie bins, and I still remember time ago they didn't exist and rubish was everywhere and nobody was thinking in it Then I realise that yes, we are taking more care than before for this planet and for everything else, Everything is better than before indeed, but then why the discontent? I believe people was not taught to knit, and want the world to be perfect tomorrow by a finger click. Then I go back to keep my daily knitting which is not with cotton now days, is talk, is walking, is working, is living. The real change is already happening every day, and is not fast, is not harch, is slow we are building endurance in all our homes.

Plants

When I studied in Colombia for 2 years, in school I learn about soil and had to maintain our class allotment and decide what to produce of food or display of flowers analyzing the soil colour, components.

I never noticed how fertile was the soil they had. I never bought a compost or fertilizer, we had cow rotations. I never saw paper poppies, I saw tons of real flowers. We had some mango trees and they produced every 6 months, there were no seasons, there was no winter rest.

Colombia must be a farmer country, the soil richness they got is very special and many generations will feed and enjoy of it.

Now, living in England I buy a banana from Africa and then a banana from Colombia; and I can feel the sweet richness of their soil; there is no comparison, I bet is even more nutritious the banana that comes from Colombia.

Europe has long areas dedicated to grow grapes, the most grateful fruit that can grow in sand and poor nutrients soils; as far as it gets long summer days to the pick energy doesn't get from the roots from the sun.
But yes, I am aware all that sand comes from ages of over-use of the land without resting nor recovery between one production and another; the dark humus soil is a layer that has been consumed and we had the next sand and the rocks only.

My grandparents both were farmers & cow farmers. The later seemed to be a better business. How good? well I know my mother on her 15th birthday, which is the most special of all in Colombia for a girl as is the age the woman raises from the girl - well my mum as birthday present got a young cow. And she sold it, and got enough money to go 1 month holiday in New York, staying in her auntie's house, in the time when fly was a luxury.

Any way, the cows were the fertilizer and the money maker, but we were talking about plants.. An even when I am not a farmer I am maintaining plants around me all the time.

Plants are a special thing in my life I do care to have some around me always, they connect me to earth, they are beauty around me and I like to see then grow. and many people does have plants, but not many engage or gives meaning to them.

Engage to care, but I don't care of plants that don't work; if they struggle is because my spots or water is not good for them; I let them go in peace and I try another plant, I am not stubborn with them, they decide their own existence and pleases.

I planted an avocado pip and it did grow 20cm, then died, and I understand it wasn't a place for an avocado tree. I have seen avocado trees, they are tall and spiny and not for a plant pot inside a heated home. So this avocado helped to grow my understanding and acceptance of his circumstances.

Richard planted a Pachypodium from Madagascar, from eBay seeds, it is a cactus with a palm looking leaves at the top of a long trunk body of spikes; and in 16 years - we have been married 16 years - it grow 1meter, is still growing and is very tall spiky and quite difficult o keep inside a home with kids, but still he has his safe spot where to keep going in my home.
I am now trying not to have to many spiked plants, they create zones of cautiousness and no penetration at home; having 1 Pachypodium is enough.

Currently I got Chinese money plants and they keep multiplying, I suppose that is why they were chosen to symbolize money growing. I do separate their new broths and give plant gifts to friends. They symbolize abundance , soo much that is enough even to share.

Ferns are quite a thing in my life too. Well they are the oldest and most ferocious survivors throw all ages in our history; they are a symbol of tenacity and capacity to overcome difficulties doesn't matter what. They reproduce with spores, they have no seeds and no flowers; just spores on the leaves. When living in Caracas, in my parents flat, we planted 4 ferns by the dinning room window, and they grow, to cover the view of outside, which was good in this case; my neighbors and us got more privacy.

The thing is that I came to England and when I went back to visit my parents there, they were no there, none ferns; my mum told me that they died after I left; they missed me to that extent .. I have a fern now, and it grows to huge lion mane size and in 1 year I get a baby and start again. Is the focal point in my dinning table, their tenacity.

Richard has some flowers which I didn't choose, they are usually not for indoors; most of the years is just green leaves, but then, they do huge amazing red flowers once a year; they have the capacity to amaze us. And amazing is something that needs to happen disperse, otherwise is not amazing, is normal. Yes this flowers are our amaizors.

I have Aloe Vera too, is not a pretty plant, but is soo useful; when I burn or sting or have any kind of skin accident, I cut 1 leave and put the clear crystal to heal me and reduce the pain; is great. Is even better if you eat it; but I could devour an Aloe Vera plant in 1 week and it doesn't grow that fast back; that will be like the children's tale when they killed the chicken of the golden eggs.. Aloe Vera is my healer. When I am sick I do smoody with 1 leave -is quite tasteless flavour but gluy texture in the palate, so I prefer to smoody mix it with banana & milk & strawberries - so is definitely not a culinary delicatesse, but it heals and is this plant's gift to help me heal my cells.

I have a plant named "mother in law's tongue", is the kind named as "Structural plants" by garden designers; well mine is indoor, is smaller. But yes it has a structural vertical shape; its leaves from the floor to the highs, they grow long, straight up, towards the top always; I don't think it talks bad; I think she is the pride. Yes the pride, always facing up, pleased and satisficed of her own achieves, with dignity. Dignity is a goddess word I know, but there is a bit of god on all his creatures, and this plant remind us about its dignity & pried.

I got a Christmas cactus, who is the last descendant from Richard's parents house plants. He is our ancestor presence. And every Christmas he brings many fuchsia flowers to our place, to contribute to the celebrations and the décor of this special time. I am sure our ancestors will be pleased we do remember and have a place for them in our home, and I am grateful of all they did, because even when this one is not my parent, is my husband's parents and they made possible him, who made possible us, who made possible our kids, and will keep making possible many more broths to come because I hope to have grandchildren and them to keep me in their home .. ups I may need to plant a plant for my rest, I mean for when I die to be kept by the next plant keepers of our home.

Being a foreigner

I was born in Colombia, but my parents left Colombia when I was 2 years old, then lived in Venezuela until I was 12years old, the lived 3 years in Colombia, then back to Venezuela, and now in England from my 28 to my 46 years old.

I had 10 different schools between primary & secondary because of my parents moving country or just moving area + 1 skipped 1 year school because an administrative mistake, they typed me in 1 year ahead grade school when I moved back to Venezuela.

I have 3 nationalities: Colombian, Venezuelan & English.

I have the flags of them and use them on my door every time there is a football match, even when I loved and I am very grateful of all the good people and time I had on the 3 of them, I don't feel I am a typical person in any of them. I do weird things in all of them without intention.

For example, I love going to Colombia, but I find hard when people thinks I am rich for leaving outside and I don't have an equal treatment or I am abused. Last time I bought a basket of beer by phone on my uncle shop for Christmas day for example; he came along with the baskets that everybody bought to him. And mine was some very expensive foreign cans whilst everybody else he sold Colombian beer in normal glass bottles. I don't drink at all, but my beer basket was quite expensive and drank first than all the others - for no reason-.

Some foreigner things really put me off, some of them I can just laugh at myself. For example, in England, I remember when Richard proposed me to be his partner. I told to him I didn't have any business, I was on holiday! He explained me the thing .. and I told him that it was nice from him but I didn't want a partner any way, I had 28 years old and I was having fun on my own; and found ridiculous to play to be girlfriend with someone I was not really interested in the game. I told him just to keep being friends, I was going to fly away in few months time. I showed to him a photo of my 50 people family in Colombia and I told him one day I would like to find someone to have my own family with, not 50 people but a family of 4, and for that is not a partner what I needed; and that was nothing Richard had in mind at all.

So we were friends, until one day he told me he wanted to make a family with me, not just being friends.

Another anecdote, in England, one day I put Max my 3 years old boy to sleep in the car - as always- he didn't sleep any other way. That day I drove 1 block down, to the B&Q shop close to us. I had a walkie talkie on hand to listen to Max -is better that baby monitors- and when I came out - because of the walkie talkie noise- lots of people was around my car telling me I was a bad mother for letting my boy in the car alone; and a police told me they could call social services and take my son from me for leaving him in the car. I didn't try to explain them that my son wouldn't sleep his siesta any other place but in that car seat and I had some things to sort at home. I was scared. But the police after scare me with taking my son, let me go - I think he saw Max & I were fine each other-. I think those guys woke up Max from his nap; but when I came back and took him from them, he was listening to them quite placid.
But that day I felt a foreigner as I knew there was not danger to my son but a rule that was meaningless to me.

I kind of chose to live with those rules when I moved to England. England has many rules that are above the individual common sense to protect the whole; and they work for the most of the kids not to be abandoned; that has a value that is extremely appreciated by me, so now I do follow those rules as much as I can. If few times I get out just because I didn't know them yet.

Another sample of foreign me, few weeks ago I offered to bring baked bread for the tea to my office work. And one of the guys there said "be careful with Maria's bread, is from Colombia, it could have drugs" .. and I just stared at him and he got silent; but after so many years working for this guy, .. this guy doesn't know me at all. I think he and most people in that room has taken baked drugs at some point. I was probably the only one in the room that wouldn't. And he was probably talking about himself more than about me. But it does still bother me; why people thinks Colombia has only drugs.

Unfortunately there is always in Colombia's history 1 drug dealer making enough money to make seem the whole country is his drug farm, but Colombians don't like drugs. There is currently a left party movement to make drugs legal, which no wonder where they got the money from. Drugs cause to "society" and families problems this "socialists" cannot see.. Words and their forgotten meaning.

I am no drugadict for being Colombian; I would do campaign anti-drugs. I do wake up at 6AM, homemade arepas or bread, love to exercise and dress nice and I am workaholic; is what most Colombians do.

I am no rich for being English I do travel a lot because of it, and travelling keeps my budget on the line.

I am not socialist for being Venezuelan; I am scared of the word. When someone label themselves as socialist or left, I wonder what they want of me and I get away of them.

Feeling a foreigner has been with me since ever.

I do like to see the attachment that my kids Emily & Max feel to her locality; but I don't think it will last as we keep traveling and they keep thinking in abroad places.

Simon Bolivar - Netflix series

Corona Virus day 07 April 2020

I go for a small jog every morning, and people is doing their social distancing very well in our neighborhood --or I go to early and everybody is sleeping.

Our postman is the same guy as ever, so he is still healthy, and I can wave and see him by the window carrying less packages every day; people is also getting less silly deliveries; and we are getting less advertisement papers too which is good -people is thinking in the postman.

In our daily Raleigh Park round family walk, by the entrance someone has put a note about 10 fluffy toys (villains) to be spot whilst we walk which are nice to spot.
And we haven't mannish to leave gates open at our end as they do at the top end, so that people doesn't have to keep touching gates to open and close .. someone keeps closing them at our end  for some reason.

Our neighbors never talked to us, but yesterday one asked us by the garden if we wanted to have a football table game for Max and we got it and disinfected it .. and is the first time they talk to us this year! which is a nice change.

The other side neighbors are a retired couple, who stopped talking to us because I built a bike shed in the front which obstructed their view of the road -which I cannot undo now, it was a big paid job and is brick made-
well, they are working on the garden all day and also talked to us because we have a badger passing throw our gardens and digging out and eating our tulip bulbs. Hurray for the badger!

"Meatmaster" is the best supplier we can get home delivery around.
But I also have a Tesco collection to pick in a week time at 8PM for paquet supplies .. a friend told me Tesco is doing it in the car park very fast and safe; someone puts 1 cardboard box into your boot and bye.. I haven' done it yet.

We have sorted milk & bread: I bought 2 big 900 grms cans of "Nestle Nido powder milk" in Amazon and we make our jar of milk at home every day; it tastes good.
And Emily has been baking scones, which is our bread and she makes them gluten free.

We are cooking a lot.
The schools were feeding our kids before a big part of the day; and also our work cafeteria was feeding us; but now all our meals are home made.

Everything is possible online, but is too much screen time for all
.. so Richard has put the trampoline in the garden, and I made up pass the ball games to teach more Spanish to the kids whilst jumping.
Also I have Max into street dance now, and Emily into song quizes with Alexa; is amazing how she knows all those song names; she always plays 2010's songs.

Richard has re-painted all the house walls in white indoors with paint that was left in the loft.

Emily draw a beautiful rainbow and we hanged it in the from door extension side. Walking by the streets seems like none one is inside, now it looks more like there is people inside hoping for the virus to go away soon.

Whatsapp is our phone all day, so I can talk and see my parents and brother daily in their respective countries. And some of my 100 other family members from Colombia more regularly.

I see the 5 PM news only every day in the BBC corona virus review.
But really Facebook has been taking for "news" place .. is difficult to disconnect from reading Facebook

The worst place with the pandemic seems to be Ecuador Guayaquil city, they are not even counting and have to leave the corpses in the streets.. very well organised society.

I hope the virus doesn't reach the little retirement town where my parents are in Colombia, because they travel every month to Bogota city to visit the doctor, there is no much health service local. The virus could exterminate those small towns.

Dile no a Petro.

==

Colombia is burning down today.
Their own people are burning it !
I always thought love for their own country was extreme in Colombia,
but you see, .. their own people are burning it,
that is what a bad leader takes them to do.

Chavez with his "socialist" talk destroyed Venezuela and his team has spread out in South America sadly.
We heard news now in Bolivia, in Ecuador, in Chile, now also in Colombia; all of them are burning down.

Their leaders repeat the same pattern: in the name of corruption and inequality,
they raise the people in anger and division to oppose to the current government.
They get elected by people and once in power, they do what they want, and dictators are difficult to get rid of, especially if they were elected once and they can say they were elected democratically.
The corruption and inequalities become more centralized around this single person and his close acquaintances; for the people: no jobs, no food, no medicines, no freedoms, no safety, all starts to be difficult to find; but they keep giving freebies to make them feel they are doing everything for them.

Yes, "they break their legs, they give them crutches and then convince them they should be grateful for their support."

I am sad today, corruption and inequality are everywhere, this group will keep talking and attracting people into their hole.

Open your eyes, this group doesn't have a solution for corruption and inequality,
but they can destroy the union of nations, your basic freedoms and the peaceful life you enjoy today.

Say no to Petro.

New Baby shopping list

What I really need to buy to prepare to have my new baby?

It is a real list I did time ago for a friend, and I would like to share with any new mother.
It is quite a good and comprehensive list as I wrote it just after my first kid experience.
Here you are,

Delivery days:

-1 packet of black panties for after delivery bleeding time (is like a very hard menstruation) http://www.mothercare.com/Blooming-Marvellous-Maternity-Mini-Briefs--5-Pack/LK2034,default,pd.html?dwvar_LK2034_color=Black
-2 packets of maternity towels (they are thicker) http://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Maternity-Towels-With-Wings-And-Aloe-Vera--24-Pack/382357,default,pd.html
-2 night blouse-dress for the delivery day, with front buttons for breast feeding.
-shampoo, soap, the first shower after delivery is a great rest
-hair brush, hair tie, make up .. to go out of the hospital some pretty
-Vaseline: apply it in your nipples since now. to make strong the nipple skin. No problem if the baby soaks some Vaseline from the nipple. Find a video in youtube about how to breasthfeed-hold the baby, open his mouth big .. babies don't know how to get the milk out, they have to learn it in short time. That is why they loose weight the first days, and that is why many women develop mastitis if the baby doesn't extract the milk after several days trying (the milk gets off inside the breast and infects) .. that is why is good to have formula milk handy.

Changing nappies:

-bottom cream, always put it on to protect the skin  http://www.mothercare.com/Sudocrem-250g/295021,default,pd.html#q=sudocream
-1 bag of disposable nappies for new born size http://www.mothercare.com/Huggies-Newborn-Size-1-Nappies-27-Pack--%284-11lbs/2-5kg%29/529182,default,pd.html. If you use disposable nappies you just need to change when pupu, or when the nappy gets too heavy of pi. Pipi doesn't irritate at all; pupu must be cleaned immediately because puts the skin red and sore immediately.
-plastic bags to put the nappies in.
-1 packet of wet baby tissues http://www.mothercare.com/baby-wipes/babycare_nappy_wipes,default,sc.html
-1 change mat, or some plastic mattress where to put the baby and change the nappy http://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Happy-Town-Change-Mat-and-Liner/528443,default,pd.html

A place where to change nappies: needs to be at a table height, needs to have something soft where to lay the baby and some plastic cover in case the pupu squeezes out and you need to clean the surface, also
You can put a big bagged bin outside the house just by outside the window where to throw away nappies and don't feel the smell in the house.
Also you need close a laundry bag to store the dirty clothes and the baby clothes handy for picking.

Hot weather:
-baby sun block http://www.mothercare.com/Bepanthen-Baby-Sun-cream-50-SPF-75ml/495910,default,pd.html
-1 fabric soft hat
-1 fan. Babies don't sweet or shake, their body temperature doesn't self-regulate. I think 19 degrees is the ideal for a baby room.

Cold weather:
-3 wrapping blankets (if 1 gets vomited you have another clean)

------------------

Baby scratches:
-mittens, the nails of a baby are very sharp, he can scratch all his face easy
-paper nail file: to cut the baby nails

------------

Shower:
My daughter didn't like bathing, she liked showers .. so one of us holded her in the shoulder and the other pass her in and out
- thick towel to dry easy
- Shampoo-soup, used this: http://www.mothercare.com/Johnson%27s%C2%AE-Baby-Top-To-Toe-Wash--500ml/287911,default,pd; but the first days just water.
- if you do bath, some moms put Johnson’s baby oil in the water

-----------------

Feeding:

- 1 big rectangle pillow, I carried the baby over the pillow everywhere in the house. A normal big pillow helps reaching your breast height without bending your back or having bad positions to your back.
- 1 baby bottle (250ml to start) (for formula milk or for water). Some doctors told me to avoid to give the baby water so she will eat more milk that is equally liquid and more nutritive; but in hot weather you may need to give water. http://www.mothercare.com/Philips-Avent-Durable-Anti-Colic-260ml-Bottles---2-Pack/279544,default,pd.html
- 1 pot of baby formula milk (just in case, even if you have decided to just breast feed, have 1 pot in case of emergencies if the breast fails you will have food). http://www.mothercare.com/Aptamil-Comfort-From-Birth---900G/933992,default,pd.html
- 1 microwave sterilizer. You put in this the bottle or the dummy and in 1 min is sterilized. Babies have no body defense to microbes like us. It is like a big plastic plate with lid: http://www.mothercare.com/Innosense%C2%AE-Microwave-Steriliser/452863,default,pd.html#avtc=fb725a730fc912eae03f198a6508f71a

--------------

For sleeping:

-2 waterproof sheets: http://www.mothercare.com/Fitted-Waterproof-Mattress-Protector/LM8385,default,pd.html
-wrapping blanket or cover
-1 pacifier: a dummy just in case the baby needs it to settle down to sleep; some babies do need it.
Nothing around to distract, not toys, not music.. So the baby can sleep
-a small bed or basket with mattress close to your bed. Or in your bed if you are not someone that turns lots in bed so than can fall sleep over the baby by mistake, lots of people said it was a mistake, but I did it to have some further sleep; however with a baby in your arms you won't ever sleep properly deep, an unconscious bit of you keeps checking all the night if the baby is ok.
I had a basket, but Emily grow and it was not suitable after 3 months.
-a comfy sofa where to sit and breast feed, in good posture position for your back, and without danger of falling the baby if you are semi-asleep.
The sofa must be close to the changing nappy place. Because after feeding there is always a pu.

----------

Medicines:
-infacol for colics
-paracetamol for pains and temperatures
- thermometer
-1 syringe (use it to give the medicines easy)

--------

Teeth (3+ months)
- 1 teeth gel http://www.mothercare.com/Calgel-Teething-Gel-10G/433330,default,pd.html
- 1 teeth toy http://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Teether-Set---3-Pack/264066,default,pd.html#q=teething

------

Clothes:
7 baby suits (~pyjamas) with buttons in front.. Don’t get size 0 more than 1, it is only usable for the 1st week, then they grow. They usually get dirty only if the pupu squeezes out or with milk vomit (white)
-muslim cloth for cleaning milk vomit

Toys:
Babies don't play at all before 3 months, so no need of toys.
If you want to stimulate the baby, black-white images, soft music, cuddling his finger or tummy, a bath, talking to him so he recognizes your  voice, a push chair trip and feeling the air and the trees sounds, .. are enough discovery.

----

Travelling:
-push chair (new born  go horizontal, after 3 months they go semi sit position)
-car sit
-1 big light bag for you to carry staff. Lots of staff.

Badgers versus Cows

I have been thinking in the badgers ..

You know what is the problem with the badgers: we don't eat them!!

At a dinner talk with friends, it raised the talk about a farm man who was really upset because the badgers were around his cows. He apparently said he hated badgers and wanted to kill them. He argued some new building houses in the town make the builders move the badgers away --strange job for a builder, but it was the story, they couldn't build on top of badgers so they moved them by themselves-- and the badgers ended up in his cow farm, and he believed the badgers could make sick his cows with TB (tuberculosis) .. well it was a strange sickness contagion between different species to happen, but he believed it was an obvious danger for the cows.

Basically he cared about his cows but not about badgers .

They were his cows.
They were none-one's badgers.

The cows were nicely housed, but the badgers were pulled away from their home.

Thinking in the size of the cow versus the size of the badger. I would be more worry for the badger to be injured for a cow than vice-versa!

Now the privilege of being a cow over being a badger, is discriminatory but is quite sensible.
Cows are more important than badgers because we can eat them.
Cows even generated income to him and it was (is) his job to care of them.

If we had badgers as part of our normal food, that guy would be creating a nice house with a solarium for the badgers to multiply happily, and even prevent them from getting sick with any TB.

That is why there are more cows than badgers .
Humans protect the specie cow indeed, badgers are useless to us.

Still human usability is the criteria on efforts for protection of animals.

We should eat and farm more variety of animals ..
